Škoda Superb Diesel Sets an Extraordinary Distance Record
Škoda has once again proven the strength of its engineering with a remarkable achievement: the fourth-generation Škoda Superb 2.0 TDI set a world record by covering an incredible 2,831 kilometres on a single tank of diesel fuel. Driven by rally champion Mikołaj Marczyk, the Superb crossed five European countries without refuelling, showcasing exceptional efficiency and long-distance capability.
Engineering That Delivers More With Less
The record-setting Superb remained almost entirely stock: a 2.0-litre TDI engine, a 7-speed DSG gearbox, and low rolling-resistance tyres. Optimized aerodynamics and precise engineering enabled the car to achieve an astonishing 2.61 L/100 km, far below from its official consumption rating.
Glow Plugs: A Small Component With a Big Impact
Although often overlooked, high-quality HIDRIA glow plugs played an important role in the Superb’s reliability during the attempt. HIDRIA PSG (pressure sensor glow plug), a glow plug equipped with a built-in pressure sensor takes diesel efficiency to the next level. By giving the engine real-time insight into what’s happening inside the combustion chamber, it allows the ECU to adjust fuel injection with exceptional precision. The result is cleaner, more complete combustion, smoother performance, and noticeably lower fuel consumption. In essence, smarter control creates a smarter engine — one that delivers more power while using less fuel.

In a challenge where every detail matters, even this small component contributed to the Superb’s seamless, record-breaking run. With this achievement, the Škoda Superb demonstrates that diesel technology still has extraordinary potential.
